Blueberry Sour Cream Muffins

Sorry for the lack of crafty posts recently...life has gotten the best of me recently and I still have a bit of a lingering cold...

Anyway, I wanted to share this I.N.C.R.E.D.I.B.L.E. blueberry muffin recipe with you!  My hubby loves blueberry muffins and I happened to find this recipe the night before his birthday!  Amazingly, I had all the ingredients so I got up early and started baking!  He was one happy birthday boy!

I found this recipe here, at the idea room  and boy is it yummy!  Here is the recipe for you to enjoy!

Blueberry Sour Cream Muffins

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 1/4 cups sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
Directions:

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees and grease your muffin tin or use liners.

2. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in medium bowl.

3.  Whisk egg in a seperate bowl until mixed and light-colored, approximately 20 seconds.

4.  Add sugar and whisk until thick, about 30 seconds.

5.  Add melted butter slowly, mixing after each addition.

6.  Add  half of the sour cream and whisk.  Then add the remaining portion and whisk.

7.  Add frozen berries to dry ingredients and gently toss together.

8.  Add sour cream mixture  to the dry mixture and gently fold together with a rubber spatula.  Carefull not to overmix.

9.  Place batter in muffin tins.

10.  Bake on the middle rack about 25 minutes, rotating the pan about halfway through baking time, until an insert toothpick comes out clean.

Cinnamon Sugar Topping:

Mix:
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Melt 4 tablespoons butter.

After muffins have cooled about 5 minutes, dip the top of each muffin into the melted butter and then into the cinnamon sugar mixture.

Find someone special to share these with.  They are truly yummy!!

Be sure to stop by tomorrow!  I am having a new GIVEAWAY!

Wasn't that so sweet of my hubby?

He has such good taste too, doesn't he?!

Happy Earth Day!

For Earth Day I decided to make blue and green "Earth" cupcakes for my daughter's school (I saw this idea here).

But.  I didn't want to bring in actual sugary cupcakes.

So I made cornbread cupcakes instead!

And of course, to make my life simple, I used fool-proof Jiffy corn bread mix!

I used 2 boxes and mixed them in seperate bowls.  Colored one bowl green and one bowl blue.  Then carefully spooned the blue and green mix into cupcake tins alternating colors.

Bake according to directions.

And voila!  "Earth Cupcakes"!

Oh, and I can be found over at Women Who Do It All guest posting today!

Come visit me there!

Pretend Make-Up

The good news is that I am over my stomach bug!  The bad news is that I now have a cold!  Seriously!  My daughter is still under the weather too!  So between all that and my son getting his 2 month shots today...we are still sort of a mess at my house right now!

So, I went digging in my "unused crafts" folder on my computer that holds all sorts of crafts and ideas and things I have done but have not posted yet (oh come on!  I know you have one of these folders too!) and found this one to share with you today!

I remember when I was a child, I had pretend make-up.  I loved it!  All it was was plastic lipstick, plastic eyeshadow etc...anyway, I thought it was the greatest thing ever!

My daughter loves to try to get into my make-up.  So I thought she would really enjoy to have her own faux make-up.  So I went to Target, and WalMart, and ToysRUs, and every other store I could think of and NO ONE sells pretend make-up anymore.  I found pretend plastic lipstick, but no other plastic make-up.  Instead what I found was a lot of brightly colored, sparkly lipgloss and real eyeshadow.

Nope.  Not gonna work for me.  I wanted PRETEND MAKE-UP!  Not cheap, 80's colors sparkly make-up!  If I wanted to give my daughter real make-up, would buy her decent colors and decent quality stuff at least, not this horrible stuff!  Yuck!

So I went to blogland for a solution.  I found this idea here at Not So Idle Hands to make faux make-up out of nail polish!  Seriously!  What a great idea!

I bought several make-up containers from the dollar store and a variety of nail polishes from the dollar store as well.

Clean out the make up containers and pour the nail polish into the containers.  Let dry!  So simple!

And I also let an empty nail polish container dry out too so she had faux nail polish (although this one has given me a heart attack a couple of times when I see it laying out, open, on the table and I think it is real nail polish!  ha ha!)  But it is such a hit!

Note that the nail polish will decrease in volume by about 1/2 as it dries so you might want to go back later and add a second layer of nail polish to these if you want your make-up containers to appear "full."

Oh, and I HIGHLY recommend doing these outside, or in a garage, or other well ventilated area, it gets super stinky!

Ok.  Well, I am off to get in pj's, take some NyQuil and watch Glee.  (Don't judge me :-)

We might be toxic but...

My clothes look less dingy!

Alright, I have a confession to make.  I hate doing laundry.  Seriously.  It is no fun.

And, I have a lot of laundry to do!

So, when possible, I like to combine loads.

This usually causes no issues.  I wash on cold when I do this, so I don't have issues!

Until a couple of weeks ago.

When, even though I had washed this particular item in question several times before, apparently, there was still some dark colored dye coming off of it in the wash.

Oh.  No.

Seriously, I had whites in this laundry load that were no where close to white anymore.

My plan to reduce laundry loads was FOILED!!!  My laundry looked horrible.

So, what to do to get your clothes looking less dingy?

(Ok.  I don't know if I can in good conscience actually advocate this "recipe", there is a chance it is toxic...but it worked like a miracle for me!)

Here is my recipe for getting mostly whites (with a bit of color on them, so bleach is not an option) white!!

Ha!  You think I am joking, I know.

Nope.  Completely serious here.

Soak clothes in oxi clean / water mixture for 2+ hours, stiring occasionally

Place clothes in a vat of Shout stain remover.  Seriously, completely immerse the entire piece of clothing in shout.  (I lost a kitchen bowl in the process...but it was worth it).

Wring out the clothes and put in the washing machine.

Add more oxi clean, a color catcher sheet, tide stain remover and laundry detergent into the washing machine.

Use a prewash cycle, wash on the stain remover cycle and add a 2nd rinse cycle just in case!

Not sure if I created a toxic solution...but I figure, they are all stain removal items, and all of them are supposedly used for different reasons at different times in the laundry cycle...so, instead of trying them at different times, try them all at once!  (Is it any wonder I have laundry problems?!?!)
The good news is that my laundry turned out AMAZING!!  Everything is bright and clean, not dingy at all!  It is quite nice looking.

The interesting part is that my hands are also very soft now...

Sorry...

Sorry, there is no new fabulous post today!

My daughter came down with a stomach bug on Friday, and I got it on Sunday...needless to say, no crafting, cooking or blogging has been done :-)  Still trying to recover!

I will be back soon though!  Promise!

Caveat Blogger - How to Make your Side Bar Buttons Scroll!!

Have you noticed how my side bar buttons are on a continual scrolling loop?

Go on, scroll down my page to check them out.

I'll wait.

Oh good.  You came back!

It's pretty cool huh?

I am all about streamlining my blog.  It is still a work in progress.  But I know that buttons on my sidebar can become a bit unruly.  So.  After much searching I found a code to help me make better use of my space and streamline my blog look by allowing me to use a smaller section of space for my various blog buttons and letting them show on a continual loop.  How cool is that?!?!

Well I have been asked how I did this!  So I thought I would share this with EVERYONE!

But.  Caveat Emptor.  Or.  Really.  Caveat Blogger.  Beware blogger.  Use this at your own risk.

I mean that in all seriousness, and, in all joking.  Both.  At the same time.

Do you remember last week when my blog when wonky?  (Ack!  I promised myself I wouldn't use that word but once I started I just can't seem to stop!  It makes me feel young and hip! ha ha!)

Well, I am 99% sure that this code was invaded by alien code one night and messed up my blog.  I don't know this for sure.  I can't prove anything, but when I deleted the code, my blog became unbroken!  So I am fairly sure that this was the cause of all my issues.

The good news is that I was able to re-install the code, my blog remains unbroken, and my buttons are scrolling again!

So.  I will share with you the code.  But, if your blog breaks, you have been warned!  You can't hold it against me and you most certainly can't stop reading my blog!

Just delete the code, and try entering it in again.  It should work!

So...here goes:

1.  Go to your layout menu and on a sidebar, create a new gadget
2.  Select html / java as the type of gadget
3.  Enter the following code at the top of the gadget:
Where the number in red is the width of your sidebar column area.  The green number adjusts the speed of the scroll: the higher the number the faster the scroll.  The purple number dictates the height of the area in question.

(But if your blog suddently breaks, even days or weeks after installing this code...just delete it and try again.  And don't say I didn't warn you! :-)

I was given the Sunshine Award by Glue Guns and Spatulas!  (Don't you just love that name!)

I have to admit it came on a good day.  I needed a little bit of sunshine in my life today.  I had a newborn who didn't nap well and a 3 year old who has had a tummy ache since the middle of the night last night (she woke up twice and came into my room) and has since thrown up twice this evening.  Like lots of throw up.  I won't go into details since they would probably make you leave my blog...but...yuck. Yuck.  Super yuck.

Anyway.  Thank you Glue Guns and Spatulas!

I am passing this award on to the following blogs.  Go check them out, they are all really cool!

Not so Idle Hands - Uhm...what can I say.  This is an amazing blog.  It is one of the first crafty-type blogs I ever discovered out there.  Amazing!

Link Party, GIVEAWAY and Announcement!!!

Oh my!  Have you noticed the last two days my blog has been acting up?  (And by acting up I mean unuseable!)

I have spent hours upon hours trying to figure out what happened to no avail.  Searched all the blogger help sites.  Nothing.

After staring at my page today while feeding my son, I realized that everything that was previously in the middle, was now on the left side...scrolling?!?!  Oh my!

So I deleted my scrolling html in two scroll-y side bar areas and voila!!!  It is fixed!

For some reason the html scroll code made my entire site wonky.  (Yes.  I said wonky.)

So, since there have been issues, I am going to extend my GIVEAWAY until next Wednesday the 21st!  So if you haven't entered it already, go here and enter it!  It is really a great giveaway!

Also, remember to link up below for the Friday link party!

And I want to personally and publically thank the person who became a Follwer while my blog was broken!  What faith you must have in me!  Thank you very much!  I hope, now that my site is working again, that I don't dissappoint you!

And, finally, do you remember these?

The best burp cloths EVER?!?!

Well I (finally) have the template / pattern for sale on my Etsy shop as promised!  Hurray!

I already have the tutorial here on my blog, but if you don't want to worry about figuring out and cutting that pesky little pattern all by yourself, stop by my shop and buy it!

Then all you have to do is cut and sew your fabric!  Now they are even more SIMPLE to make!

Now!  On to the LINK PARTY!

You know the rules...Link Up!  Check out other people's links, leave some comment love, let others know about the link party by putting my button or a link back here on your blog, or blog about the link party if you like.  Return next week and do it again!

Thanks so much!

You know you are a frazzled mom when...

Your daughter, whom you have just helped floss her teeth, is asking where the floss went.

I, of course, assumed she had taken it and put it somewhere.

Until I went to grab a ziploc bag from a high cabinet (that she can't reach) and found it sitting in there.

I wish I was joking people.  This is a true story.

(As a side note, I LOVE Slow Cooker bags :-)  And clearly I shop at Target.)

Yummy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Alright.  I have to be honest with you.

I enjoy baking.  I really do.  (If you couldn't tell!)

But there are a couple of things that I can't seem to get right.  One of which is banana bread.  (I have a guilt complex throwing away the bananas so I feel the need to make something with them like banana bread.  But it never turns out right.  Never.  And we end up throwing that away...anyway.  Long story short, I have been banned from making it.)

The other thing I have not been able to do successfully is chocolate chip cookies.

I know, ridiculous,  right?  Who can't make chocolate chip cookies?!?!  Me.  I can't.

Mine always end up sooooo flat that the chocolate chips look like huge mountains sticking up out of the rest of the cookie.  It's not a pretty sight.

And it is so sad because chocolate chip cookies are my husband's favorite type of cookie.

Well, when my sister came to visit me after I had my son, (she lives out of the country so I don't see her too often) she taught me how to make chocolate chip cookies.  Hurray!

When they were done, my husband walks over and says, "Wow!!  These actually...I mean...these look great hun."  Ha ha ha!

They did taste quite good too!

They are more of a chewy cookie rather then a cake-y cookie if that makes an sense.  Anyway, just the way we like them!  Yum!

So watch out world!  I am armed with chocolate chip cookie making power!

Here is the recipe I used with great success, twice!  Enjoy!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cream together until fluffy:  (Really, turn the mixer on high and mix for several minutes until it looks light and fluffy!)
  • 3/4 c butter flavored crisco
  • 3/4 c sugar
  • 3/4 c brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs
Add and mix:
  • 2 1/4 c flour (for thicker cookies add up to 1/2 c more)
  • 1/2 c quick oats (can use up to 1 c for an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
Stir in:
  • 12 oz chocolate chips (ok...I put a few extra in this batch...super chocolatey...yummy!!)
Drop on an ungreased cookie sheet. (Ungreased is important here!  If you use pam on your pan it can make your cookies flatten out.  One of the many mistakes I was making apparently!)

Bake at 350 degrees F for 8-10 minutes.

Enjoy!

Happy Baking!

Teaser!

So have I meantioned that I found a fabulous person to help me redesign my blog?!?!

She is fabulous and I am loving working with her!  (I just hope she doesn't get sick of me!)

So, I don't have much to tell you yet, but after a fabulous round of logo revisions, I sent her this email:

Oh dang it! They are all so cute!!!

Printing.

Stewing.

Maybe I will go look at your photoblog and come back to this... (Check it out here!)

(Wow! Your images (from this past weekend) are incredible!!!! They are absolutely amazing!!!  If I lived anywhere near you I would hire you to take photos of our family for sure!!)

Back to the logos...

I love them all!

Shoot, the red opened up a whole new world of fabulousness.

So so torn.

This is TOTALLY why I can't do this for myself!

Ok. I am going to stew again.

See!  Aren't you excited?  I know I am!

It's gonna be goooooood!

Shirt Make-Over

Do you want to know how to make this...

From this...

Using only these...

In about 5 minutes!

I know.  You think I'm joking right?!?!

While I do love a good joke, nope.  Totally serious here!  Amazing huh?

Ok.  Here is the how-to on this super simple t-shirt make-over!

Take a shirt.  It can be old, big, boxy, it does not have to be a great shirt!

Cut off the seams on the sleeves.

Cut along the top of the sleeve all the way back to where the sleeve meets the shirt.

Take the two ends and tie them in a knot.

Or don't.

Fold the shirt in half and cut a new neckline.  Be careful.  It is easy to cut too large of a neckline.  It is always easier to cut more off, so start small!

Fold the shirt about 2" below the bottom of where the sleeves meet the shirt and snip tiny straight lines trough all 4 layers of shirt.  (Careful!  Only snip about 1/2" in length!)

Cut the bottom seam off.

*Optional: You can then go back and cut a new shirt bottom if you like.  I cut mine straight across because I didn't have much length in my shirt, but you could easily cut it at an angle and give the shirt a bit more spunk!

Take the bottom seam and cut it apart.

Thread the bottom seam fabric through the snips in the shirt and tie to create a new empire waist line.

And enjoy your new, super cute, super easy, recycled shirt!

(Excuse the blurry mirror photos...I had no one around to take photos of the t-shirt for me!)

Also, remember to LINK UP at my Link Party and be sure to enter my GIVEAWAY!  (Scroll to the top of the page for links to both of those!)

Happy Designing!
