Pom-Poms

Remember a couple of months ago when I bought those hurricane vases from Ulta (I know...a beauty supply store...so weird right?)  But they were only like $5  (originally $50!) and I had been wanting some, so I scored a GREAT deal and was very excited about it!  (They are really nice quality too!)  But I digress...

Ever since I found them, it has been one of my pet projects to find fun things to fill them with.

Recently I hosted a baby shower and wanted to fill them with something a little bit different.  Here is what I came up with:

Cute huh?  I am really loving the simple tissue paper Pom Poms!

Here's how to make them:

1.  Stack 8+ pieces of tissue paper together (for larger fuller poms you can use more paper)

2.  Cut a square out of the tissue paper the same diameter that you want your pom to be.

3.  Fold stacked tissue paper accordian style (1/2" - 1.5" wide depending on size of pom).

4.  Secure in middle using wire.

5.  Trim ends in a rounded shape, or for a spunkier variation, you can cut the ends in points.

6.  Seperate the layers, one at a time, being very careful not to tear tissue.  Arrange tissue layeres until the pom pom is formed.

7.  Use as is or attached nylon thread or clear fishing wire to create hanging pom poms!

I just love how they turned out!!!  Don't you?

Lemon Curd

I warned you I was on a lemon kick.

I love lemon curd.  It is so yummy.  It is yummy on biscuts or toast.  It is incredible, warmed, on gingerbread cake.  It is just really yummy!

Now I don't know if this is the absolute best recipe out there because it is the only one I've ever made, and this was my first time making it, but I thought it was pretty yummy.  It was nice and tart and not overly sweet...yum!  Just how I like it!

Lemon Curd

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 c sugar
  • 1/4 lb butter, room temperature
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 c lemon juice (I used the lemon juice from a bottle, but if you want to use fresh juice, this will probably be about 3-4 lemons.)
  • 3 Tablespoons lemon zest (I used dried zest.  1 T fresh zest = 1 T dried zest, and you get about 1 T zest from 1 lemon if you want to go the fresh route.)
  • 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
  Directions
  1. Cream the butter, sugar, and lemon zest.
  2. Add the eggs, one at a time.  Mix.
  3. Add the lemon juice and salt.
  4. Mix until combined.
  5. Pour the mixture into a pan and heat over low heat until thickened.
  6. Stir constantly.
  7. Lemon curd will thicken at about 170 degrees F.
  8. Remove from heat and cool in the refrigerator.
Enjoy!

Blog Swap with Every Crafty Endeavor - Patriotic Wreath!

Today you can find me blog swaping over at Every Crafty Endeavor!

Want a hint?  I am sharing a tutorial about this:

Cute huh?  Go check it out here!

Now here's Amanda from Every Crafty Endeavor!  I am so excited to have her here today with us!  She is sharing a really cute patriotic idea today....I definitely need to make something like this for the 4th of July!  Very cute!  So without further ado...here is Amanda...

I am so excited to be here today at Simply Designing! Ashley is such a cute girl and has a darling little blog and it is an honor to be apart of it! I am always adding things to my "to-do" list just by looking through her fun ideas.

My name is Amanda and I am the creative mind behind “Every Crafty Endeavor.” I am married to a dashingly handsome, hard-working man named Spencer and we have a little boy named Quinn! I work part time as a writer on a marketing team for an Engineering Company and craft in my “spare time.” I have been a “mommy blogger” for a couple years – and started Every Crafty Endeavor to showcase some crafty ideas that I have made.

Sometimes I come up with ideas on my own and sometimes I see ideas that I love and copy - always giving credit of course! That is what I love about blogging - everyone shares ideas and our homes and babies and lives are much cuter! I love to craft and cook and I have lots of fun ideas and tutorials that I love to share. I am constantly thinking about things to cook, make or sew, accessories that pop, ways to decorate my home and things to photograph. When visiting my blog - you will find ideas and tutorials for:

Home Decor

Yummy Recipes

 Accessories

and a whole lot more!

Today I am excited to debut a fun little wreath I made just in time for Memorial Day - followed quickly by the Fourth of July! All the supplies will be purchased from the Dollar Tree! Creative and Cheap!

You will need:
  • a grapevine wreath
  • 7 rolls of ribbon
  • America Sign
  • Scissors

First: Pull the paper tag off the wreath, leaving the plastic tie - you will use this to hang up your wreath.

Second: Cut up your ribbons to your desired length Mine were about 12 inches.

Third: Start tying on the ribbon.

Tie on as much as you would like.

Fourth: Attach the America Sign onto the back. I simply untied one side of the sign and looped it through the plastic tie at the top. Then I re-threaded it, tied it off and nestled the sign a little bit crooked in the wreath. It fits just a little bit tight so it was perfect.

You can also just let it hang down in the front. Just decide what you like and go for it!

Fifth: Hang it up and enjoy!

Ashley, Thanks so much for having me and swapping with me today! Make sure you stop by my blog today so you can see what cute idea she is teaching. It is darling and you won't be disappointed!

What a great idea!  Thanks for sharing with us Amanda!  (And thanks for saying all those nice things!!)  I am really excited to try out a few of her tutorials...she does some cute stuff!
