Sometimes I get overwhelmed with life. Being a stay-at-home-mom of a 4 year old girl and a 1 year old boy can be a lot of work, plus cleaning, laundry, family responsibilities and other household chores...it can really be overwhelming sometimes.
I do my best to keep a clean house and not let the laundry pile up too high, but sometimes I find I am more focused on marking things off my to-do list then I should be.
I am blessed to be able to stay home right now and I sometimes need to remind myself that THAT is the most important job. So when I saw this cute plaque on pintrest the other day, I knew I needed to make myself something similar. (The original sign I was inspired by was from Catching Fireflies)
Disclaimer: Lest you think otherwise, I would also like to say that good moms also have clean floors, straight kitchens, neatly folded laundry and clean ovens. And most of the time, I gladly fall into that category This board is not meant to claim otherwise, I simply thought it was a cute, humorous reminder to help me remember what my personal priority is as a stay-at-home-mom!
I already had a wood board that I didn't love. So I primed it and painted it all cream. Then I attached vinyl lettering (thanks to my good friend at NataLee Allen Designs!) Next I spray painted the entire board brown. After it was dry, I carefully peeled the lettering off! But it wasn't quite right. So I carefully rubbed a bit of stain all over the whole thing and I distressed the edges just a tiny bit!
Do you sometimes have trouble with this too, or is it just me?

I could have written this post today! I feel as though I'm sinking today under a heap of 'to dos', but this is a timely reminder that reading the same book 3 times in a row and helping my boys line up all their cars and trains is much more important than putting the laundry away!
ReplyDeleteYour sign looks great, think I need to do something similar!
That is so awesome!! Might have to make one for me and some of my besties!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I think I need one of these, too!
ReplyDeleteI want one of these!!!!
ReplyDeleteAshley,
ReplyDeleteI love how it turned out. You are so talented. And I wish my floors were as clean as I'm sure yours are.
That is just a perfect saying. I remember those days well....when I had 4 kids at home and 3 of them were under the age of 4-with one older boy. There is never enough time to do what needs to be done..and some things just DO NOT MATTER! Enjoy everyone of those harried days because all too soon they will be in school and you will wonder where the time went- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteLove this! And what an awesome job! :)
ReplyDeleteWe had 5 kids in 7 yrs - and let me tell you - there were some sticky floor and laundry piles! Still are....

hey there,
ReplyDeletei stumbled across this photo on pinterest & it definitely hit a chord with me. i'm a sahm to 2 kids a yr & 20 days apart with a husband whose constantly deployed, & without family or friends in the area. It's tough. Some days I feel like super mom. Other days I want to pull my hair out. My to do list is never ending & being creative certainly isn't easy when you have a baby & a toddler. It's a daily struggle for me to find that balance & put down the cleaning rag & play trucks with my son {19 mo}. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who feels pulled to perfection but realizes that if I miss out on these precious moments I'll regret it.

Is it odd that this prompted me to clean the dirty house?! It was a good day. We had three extra kids so everyone was entertained while I cleaned up!
ReplyDeleteI have trouble with this more often then not. I absolutely LOVE this and will be making one to put up in my home. Thank you for the AWESOME how to!!
ReplyDeleteLove this sign ..... Though I was a bad mom with sticky floor, dirty oven and piles of laundry, but this made me feel good. Thank yoi
ReplyDeleteI't not just you, I think we all feel the same way. In addition to being a SAHM, I also work from home, so I would add 'missed deadlines' in there, and unlike you I actually rarely have my floors not sticky and laundry folded, if ever ;)
ReplyDeleteLove this sign! Just shared in on our pinterest board and on our site. It's important to make sure we all know that spending time with our children and making memories with them in important. http://theeducatorsspinonit.blogspot.com/2012/11/teaching-gratitude-in-our-home-with-kids.html#
