I have still been crafting....I just haven't been posting...

The lack of blog posts is not due to lack of crafting.  I have not really been taking a break.  But I don't have much to post at the moment.  It's all due to a lack of post-able creations!

A post-able creation?!  What's that you ask??  Well...for example...I made 7 costumes for my daughter's play at preschool this past week.  (And by "make" I mean I used my hot glue gun :)  But it's not a lot of fun to take photos of billy goat ears, tails and hoofs, or piggy tailes and ears and post them without being modeled.  So. Not very postable.  (But you can see the final result on my facebook fan page!)

I also made and decorated 80 mini-cupcakes for my daughter's play!  But, nothing too facy to post about.  But it kept me busy!  (You can also see these on my facebook fan page!)

We have also been hard at work on re-doing a headboard and footboard.  And by re-doing I mean power tools are involved.  :) But, it's not done yet, so again, not postable.  But, I am hard at work!

With all that said, I will be back tomorrow with my Link Up Party so be sure to join me for it!  And next week I will be back with some a few great posts!!

See you tomorrow!

10 Years

Running the risk of getting a bit sentimental, 10 years ago I married my sweetheart.

(I'd insert a photo of my husband and I from ten years ago here, but we didn't have a digital camera back then! ha ha ha!)

Like all marriages, we have had our ups and our downs, our struggles and our absolutely wonderful times!

My husband is an absolute sweetheart.  He puts up with me, and my craziness, and my need to overbook our lives, and all my quirks, and he also puts up with the fact that I really don't like to make the bed.  (Yes...it is a rare day when I make my own bed, usually he makes it!  He's a keeper, huh?)

But through it all, we have had a lot of FUN!

Ten years ago I could not have imagined the life I would have today.  We are living in a place I never thought we would live, in a beautiful home, and have two beautiful children.  I couldn't ask for anything more.

Thanks for the best ten years, Babe!

Simply Link {Party} & Bunny Oreo Pops

I can't believe that Easter is this Sunday!  Where did April go?!?  Well if you are still looking for an easy Easter treat how about these cute Bunny Oreo Pops...

I combined an idea I saw somewhere at some point for oreo pops with the bunny pops Bakeralla created.

These are pretty easy to make and quite tasty!  Here's the how-to:

  1. Take an oreo and twist is apart.
  2. Don't worry if it breaks, just put it back in the package, someone will eat it!  (Or you can eat it and hide the evidence!)
  3. Take a lolly pop stick and dip it in white melting chocolate.  Carefully place it down in the icing of the oreo.  The icing will split apart, this is ok.  Try not to break the cookie though.
  4. Put the oreo back together and let it set for a few minutes.
  5. Dip oreo in white melting chocolate and let partially dry.
  6. Make ears from pastel colored candy corns by carefully placing them in the partially hardened chocolate.  If you can't find these, get creative in the candy aisle!  Let dry completely.
  7. I used a heart and two circle sprinkles to create the eyes and nose.  Using a toothpick, apply a bit of chocolate to the back of the sprinkles and place them on the bunny head.
  8. Using a blue and a black edible marker, dry eyes on the bunny.
  9. Use pink icing and a #1 tip to create the mouth.
  10. Use black icing and a #1 tip to create eye lashes.
Enjoy!!!

Now on to the LINK PARTY!!!  Thanks for stopping by to link up!

Surprise Rice Krispie Easter Eggs

I saw this idea in a magazine and knew I had to try them!  Surprise Rice Krispie Easter Eggs!

What's the "surprise" you ask?  The surprise is that they are filled with treats on the inside!  How fun is that?!?

And guess what?  They aren't too difficult to make either!

  • First grab a few plastic eggs and coat them with non-stick spray.
  • Then make yourself a batch of Rice Krispie Treats.
  • Using greased hands, press rice krispie mixture into each egg half.  Let cool for a few seconds.
  • Using your finger, make a cavity on the inside of each egg half.  Let cool a few more seconds.
  • Remove rice krispies from plastic eggs, fill with a small treat of your choice (I used jelly beans) and press the two sides firmly together
Enjoy!!

Happy Easter!

Guest Post - The Shine Project

I am so excited to have Ashley from The Shine Project guest posting today!  As soon as I found her blog I knew I was in love!  She has a great blog dedicated to helping us improve ourselves and the world around us!  So read on, I know you'll love The Shine Project too!

Hello Beauties! I'm Ashley from The Shine Project, and today, I'm going to ask you do DO HARD THINGS.

 Photobucket

I created The Shine Project so that we can CHANGE THE WORLD. Yes, I said it. We CAN change the world. This is what The Shine Project is all about: Going out of your comfort zone to bring light to those who need hope. The Shine Project emulates love, sacrifice, and CHANGE. Every Monday, I give a weekly SHINE Challenge, that allows all of us to team up together to accomplish some good in the world. Whether it be giving a compliment, facing your fears, or sending a letter to someone, these act.

 Photobucket

IMAGINE what we could do, if every week, we did something to prove to ourselves that we are capable of ANYTHING! I'm done with mediocrity, done with excuses, and done wishing that I was closer to my dreams.

 Photobucket

To help remind ourselves of our daily goal, I created these necklaces to keep the SHINE going strong! $1 of each necklace goes into the Shine Project Scholarship Fund that will be rewarded to an inner city school student to help them pay for college.

 Photobucket

I need you to help make the world SHINE. Come and join the project, and see the lives around your change... Including your own. Go Ahead, Let The World See You Shine.

You can visit Ashley on her blog at The Shine Project!

Simply Link {Party} & Flowered Egg & GIVEAWAY

Thank you so much for stopping by for my Simply Link {Party}!  But before we begin, I wanted to share with you my Flowered Egg craft I made!

I love love LOVE it!!!!

I was inspired by Bliss Bloom Blog and her flowered egg, but I wanted a bigger egg.

I found a 7" foam Easter egg from Michael's.  Hurray!  I was so excited to find such a large egg!

I also used about 5-6 sheets of 12"x12" scrapbook paper (about 2.5 sheets each of two different colors), (2) packs of pins with pearls on the ends and Martha Stewarts' hydrangea flower punch (I used 199 pins).

Start by punching all of your flowers.  (Note, I used 199 pins which means I punched 398 flowers so put on a movie and get punching!)

Then I stacked 2 flowers together and pinned them into the foam egg.

Stack and pin.  Stack and pin.  Stack and pin...

And I love how it looked.  It was practically perfect.

But then I went garage sale-ing last night and found this, not so attractive gold candle stand.  For the low low price of 25 cents I new exactly what I wanted to so with it the minute I saw it!!!

Gold candle stand meets heirloom white spray paint!  Oh look how pretty it is painted!!!!  (My daughter is devastated that it is no longer sparkly gold, but I love it in white!)

Yes.  I am in LOVE with my Flowered Egg and stand!  What do you think, would you display this in your house?  If so....read on for my Giveaway...

SO.....today on Fox News Morning Show I will be showing how to make one of these.  A smaller one, using a 3.5" Styrofoam egg.  And I want to give it to YOU!!!

A GIVEAWAY!!!!!!  HURRAY!!!!

To Enter to Win the 3.5" Styrofoam Flowered Egg, please leave one comment for each of the following things that you do:
If you do all of these things you can leave 6 comments!  But you only need to do 1 to enter :)

This giveaway will run until Sunday night at midnight EST.  I will announce the winner on Monday.

Now it's time to PARTY!!!!

Tissue Paper and Yarn Easter Eggs

Ever since I made my tissue paper and yarn heart wreath I knew I wanted to use this technique again.

With the arrival of spring and Easter on it's way, I realized that this would be a perfect technique to use on Styrofoam eggs!

These are so so simple!

  1. Mod podge small pieces of tissue paper onto Styrofoam eggs.  I think two layers is perfect.
  2. Let dry.
  3. Dip yarn in mod podge and squeeze off excess.
  4. Wrap yarn around eggs and let dry.
Aren't they just so cute?!?!?!

What's your favorite way to decorate for Easter or Spring?

I have Accountable Kids, do you?

Over the course of the last couple of years, we have tried various methods to encourage our daughter to do her daily tasks and provide her with some sort of motivation.

We have made chore charts, we have tried rock jars...and they all work...sort of.  But I wanted a better system.  A way to teach my daughter how to be responsible, that she is an important part of this family and as such, needs to help by taking care of her things, and give her a way to do extra chores to earn a little "allowance."

I never found a system that was good for such a young child but could also adapt as she got older.  I never found a system I loved, and believe me, I looked!

And then I found Accountable Kids!

I was thrilled when Accountable Kids offered to send me a kit to review! I have had the opportunity to use this system with my daughter for about a month and absolutely love it!

I love that my daughter knows what is expected of her.  I love seeing how excited she is to earn her "tickets" and use them for privileges.  I love that I don't need to nag her to complete her tasks anymore.

I love love love this system!

It has eliminated contention in our home over completing daily tasks. It has helped take the stress of telling my daughter what she needs to do from me, by making her responsible for it! This system has changed our house hold!

And not only do my husband and I love this system, but my daughter loves it to! Amazing!!

Here are a few of my favorite things about Accountable Kids:
  • Easy to read chore cards with photos
  • Can specify chores for morning, afternoon and evening
  • Provides a way for children to earn short term rewards and long term rewards
  • Suggests that the rewards are privileges such as watching a TV show, or having a play date as opposed to rewarding children with material goods or money for completing tasks that should be done as part of a family
  • Provides a way for children to do extra chores to earn an allowance
  • Provides a natural consequence if they don't complete their daily tasks
  • Eliminates the need to nag your children to do their chores
  • Helps unite the family
  • Helps teach children to become responsible
Yup!  It is that amazing!!  And I am so glad I discovered this wonderful system!  I now have an accountable daughter!

If you are interested in learning more go to Accountable Kids website to read more about it or to order.

And guess what?  Accountable Kids is offering my readers a 10% off discount!  Simply use the coupon code: simplydesigning

Accountable Kids also offers a friends and family discount of 30% off for large group orders.  You can find out more about that here

And if you are looking for a bigger discount, you can check out their blogger discount here where you can earn up to 50% off additional purchases.

If you are looking for a way to teach your children to be responsible, I recommend that you check out Accountable Kids!

I was sent a kit to review however, all opinions expressed are 100% mine.

Easter Wheat Grass

I have been so inspired by so many bloggers growing their own wheat grass!  I didn't even know this could be done!

But I can't keep plants alive.  Really.  And I was worried that it would take too long (I am impatient!)  But then a friend of mine grew wheat grass and told me how fast and east it was, and wow did her's look incredible!  Wow!  I really had no idea!

So, today I am excited to feature Tatum from K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Sister)!  She has a lovely tutorial on how to grow wheat grass here and even tells how to grow wheat grass on a paper towel!

Here is her final product:

Isn't it so lovely and spring-y?  Go here for K.I.S.S.'s full tutorial!

Thanks for joining me today for my Simply Link {Party}!

Before we begin, I wanted to share my final Peep-Treat I made this week.  I had the idea to dip Peep Bunnies in chocolate a long time ago, but when I went to do it, it was a bit difficult and I couldn't get them to look quite right.  So I tried a few different methods and finally decided that Love from the Oven definitely had the right idea in making Peep Pops!

So I stuck those delicious peep bunnies on a lollypop stick and dipped away!  And ooohhhh...they look to cute and taste sooooo yummy!!

Using my yummy rice krispie treat recipe, I decided to make this batch a bit festive!

After you press the treats into the pan, gently press your Peep Bunnies or Peeps on the rice krispies.

Let the treats cool and cut as desired!

Peep-oration {Peep Week Day 3}

I didn't want to let another Wednesday go without an interior design post.  So this Wednesday I want to share with you a few ways to decorate for Easter or Spring using Peeps :)

It's Peep-oration time!!

Ok.  It's not very interior design-y...but it sure makes me smile!!

This is my favorite Peep-oration...probably because it's mine :)  I had a lot of fun carefully placing peep bunnies in my vases while shoo-ing little hands away :)

Don't they just look so festive and yummy!?

And if that isn't enough to get you in the mood to decorate with Peeps, here are a few other cute decorating ideas:

Peep Smoothie {Peep Week Day 2}

After seeing a similar recipe on the Peeps site, I was inspired to try my hand at my own Peep Smoothie!

I started with their basic recipe and modified it a bit...here's what I came up with and boy it was yummy!!

Peep Smoothie

Ingredients:
  • Peep Marshmallow Chicks
  • 1 can of sliced peaches
  • 6 oz pineapple juice (I used the juice from a can of pineapple)
  • 1/4 cup frozen lemonade concentrate
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • Lemon-line soda like Sprite or 7up
  • Cool whip or whipped cream
  • Cubed ice
Directions:
  • Put peaches in a blender and puree.
  • Add pineapple juice, lemonade and almond extract and mix.
  • Add cubed ice and blend until thick and smooth.  (The more ice you use, the thicker the smoothie will be.)
  • Fill a glass about half way with smoothie mixture and add soda to fill the cup.  Mix carefully.
  • Top with cool whip and a peep.
Enjoy!

S'more Peeps {Peep Week Day 1}

I.  Love.  Peeps.

Their marshmallow-y goodness covered in a layer of unnaturally colored sugar.  Yum!

So, as you can imagine, I had a LOT of fun thinking of different things I could so with Peeps this Eater...and I am very excited to spend all week sharing some Peep Ideas with you!

The first idea I want to share with you are for S'more Peeps!

WARNING:  Peeps were harmed in the making of these treats.

What is better then a peep layered between some chocolate and two graham grackers?  Yum!

Hm...I can't post about Peep S'mores without having taste tested them right?
Gotta taste it for the good of the blog! :)

They taste just as good as they look!  Yum.  Yum.  Super yum!

You can also put the S'more in the microwave for a few seconds to melt the chocolate and the marshmallow peep.
So delish!
I am still bummed that I only bought one chocolate candy bar...I keep craving S'more Peeps!  They are so yummy.

Dare I say I like them better then regular S'mores?!  Why?  Because peeps are just a bit softer then regular marshmallows and...well...they are covered in sugar!

I love peeps but I realize that not everyone feels the same way.  So I want to know, are you a peep lover or a hater?
