Mrs. Smith Deep Dish Pies + a Williams Sonoma GIVEAWAY

This post brought to you by Mrs. Smith's. All opinions are 100% mine.
It is the time of year when many pies are baked.  And while I like to try to bake most of my pies myself, sometimes with the hustle and bustle of the season, there just isn't time to bake a pie from scratch.  When I was given the opportunity to review the new Mrs. Smith's Signature Deep Dish pies , I decided that this would be a great way to take a little of the hectic out of the holidays this year.
MrsSmith.jpg
I purchased Mrs. Smith's Signature Deep Dish Pumpkin Pie, Dutch Apple Pie, Cherry Pie and Peach Pie and got to baking!  The directions were simple to follow and the pies looked great coming out of the oven.
Pumpkin Pie
Pumpkin Pie with Cream Cheese Icing
Each of Mrs. Smith's Signature Deep Dish pies comes with an added icing packet to put on top!  You can put the icing on each piece individually or on the entire pie.  It added a little something fun to each of the pies and my daughter LOVED helping me decorate the pies!
Pumpkin Pie
The Pumpkin Pie was creamy and had a nice texture.  It was a little too sweet for me, but it was still a pretty good pumpkin pie.
ch apple pie
Dutch Apple Pie with Caramel Sauce
Our favorite was definitely the Dutch Apple Pie.  My husband loves apple pie and this one riveled any dutch apple pie I've ever had.  There were a LOT of apples in the middle of this pie and the apples cooked up soft, but not mushy!  I was really impressed with how well ths dutch apple pie was and how good the apples were!
The crumble mixture on top just poured right on and was really quite tasty.  This pie was definitely the hit of all the pies we tried!  This was my husband's and my favorite pie for sure!

Lilla Rose GIVEAWAY

I always love the opportunities I have to review products I normally wouldn't try and I love to host giveaways!  It has certainly been busy around here with lots of fun giveaways and I can't wait to keep them going (hint I have a HUGE one coming in January! :)

Anyway, some products I have reviewed I have loved, some, not so much and every once in a while I get a product that surprises me. Not that long ago I was contacted by sweet Adrienne from A Whole New Mom about Lilla Rose hair accessories and was super excited to be able to check out their hair accessories!

I had seen their accessories before, I had even contemplated purchasing something from them.  But I am always a little skeptical about purchasing items online that I have never seen in person or that are from a brand I am not familiar with.  The products looked nice online, but I was unsure how their quality and look would be in person.  I am not the only one with this concern, right?!  So I was excited to have the opportunity to see one in person!

Lilla Rose is knows for their Flexi-Clips.  Not sure what a flexi-clip is, I didn't know either!  Basically is a cute  hair accessory that is a great accent piece in a ponytail, a half up, or a full up-do.  (you can learn more here)  I had a hard time picking out which style I wanted, but I eventually settled on the Scrollwork Heart.
I am not a huge fan of hearts, but the style reminded me of something from Brighton, and I am a HUGE fan of Brighton so I decided that this was the clip for me.

When it arrived, I was pleased to see that this flexi-clip was a good quality product.  I could tell it wasn't going to break easily, and the designs were nice looking and elegant, not at all cheesy.  Hurray!

So I immediately began playing with it!

I only needed my Flexi-Clip and (1) bobby pin (to get a few fly-aways) to throw my hair back into a cute and simple up-do.  It is all up and out of my face and since the clip was cute, it looked like I had spent more time on my hair then I actually did.  It was as simple as throwing my hair into a quick claw clip for a spray-painting, sweat-pants sort of day, with the elegance of a simple up-do.  Change out of my sweatpants and I could totally go out in public with very little effort :)  Love that.

And one of the best parts is that I really think the style is lovely, something I would totally wear, and Brighton-esque.  When I pulled my hair back and had my hubby take a photo of the back of my hair (thanks hun!) he said, "That's really pretty, is it from Brighton?"

Yup.  Husband's seal of approval acquired.

Lilla Rose also sells other cute hair accessories.  Here are a few:

Etched Daisy You-Pin
(You-Pins allow you to throw your hair up into a quick bun with only two pins.)

Lovely Circle Stone-Set Bobby Pins
(Ok, have you ever seen such cute bobby pins!?)

Rose Headband
(These look really cute paired in groups of two, you've got to check out how they look on their site)

Now that I've temped you with cute hair accessories, I wanted to tell you about a great deal Adrienne is providing for my Simply Designing readers!  If you are a new customer, you can Buy 3 Get 1 FREE Lilla Rose Hair Accessories right now!  That's one for you, and three to share.  Or all for you...either way :) (order here)

These would make perfect Stocking Stuffers!  My daughter is already begging to have a flexi-clip of her own :)  And yes, the come in child sizes.  (Just be sure to order by 12/10/12 so it arrives in time for Christmas).

Storage Solutions with Packaways

Every Fall and Spring I go through my children's clothing, pack away what is still in good condition but doesn't fit and throw away what is no longer salvageable.  But this fall, I am running into a new challenge.  My daughter, who is 6, has started to slow down a bit with her growth.  (At least I think she has.)  So I don't want to pack clothes away in the garage that "might" fit her next season.  However, I don't want an ugly, unstable box sitting in my daughter's closet "just in case" something might fit.  And I just didn't have room to keep it all out!

As an answer to my dilemma, Packaways contacted me about their new product that just happens to be a perfect solution to my problem!  So I was so excited to be able to try Packaways out!

Packaways are a plastic, reusable storage container.  They are really sturdy, and so easy to use.  They fold completely flat when not in use and are a breeze to set up and take down.

Many of the sizes come with their own fold in top, so there is no lid to lose and no tape is needed to get these boxes to stay closed!

And by literally just pushing in the bottom, the boxes fold flat again!  How simple is that!?  So when I don't need to use the boxes, I can tuck them under a bed or in the back of a closet and they won't take up much room!

They come in a variety of sizes and colors and I was anxious to get some good use out of them!

The green one (without a lid) went in my downstairs closet for gloves, hats, scarves and other winter items so the kids could easily find what they needed.  When the winter months are over, I plan to quickly disassemble the box for the season.

The white one became storage in my closet for hiding Christmas gifts in it!  It is really a huge box and fit a ton of items!  Again, once Christmas passes, I can either continue to use this for storage (we have 3 birthdays between January and February in our house) or flatten it down for another day.

The pink one became storage for clothes that "might" fit my daughter next year.  And the blue one became storage for clothing that "might" fit my son next year.

These boxes hold a LOT of stuff!  They are really nice sized and held a lot of clothing, but also fit perfectly up on our high closet shelves.

My daughters is packed to the brim with clothing and even though it is really heavy, the Packaways box can totally handle it without falling apart!  (so much better then a brown packing box!)

These would also be great for any other type of home storage, office storage, moving, seasonal storage etc.  And Packaways are made in the USA.

Packaways has solved my latest storage dilemma!  What is your latest storage dilemma and how did you solve it?

Thanks so much to Packaways for making this discussion about storage solutions possible!  I was not compensated for this review, however I was sent product to review for purposes of this post.
All opinions are 100% mine.

Up-Cycled Holiday Goodie Tin

One of my favorite things I get to do every month is to do a blog post for Expressions Vinyl blog.  They have a great little blog going and mostly I LOVE their online store!  They have the BEST prices for vinyl and they also have amazing deals on Silhouettes!  So if you need vinyl or are hoping that Santa brings you a Silhouette, you'll definitely want to stop by and take a look here!

Anyway...this month I posted a really simple idea for taking a drab holiday tin and turning into a fabulous goodie package!

Stop by and check out how to create this here.

Ubooly + a GIVEAWAY

As a busy mom I am constantly juggling being a mom, a wife, a homemaker, a blogger and many other things.  I know that many of you are the same way.  And the holiday season is always crazier then any other time.  But I always try my best to be a mother and a teacher to my children.  I don't home school but I try to read with my daughter at least 20 minutes a day plus we spend time working on homework together.  I also read with  my son every day and work on age-appropriate educational, developmental and speech activities with him as well.

It's a lot to always fit into my days and I don't always do it all successfully.  It doesn't all always happen and I will freely admit that sometimes my children get to watch a little tv or play an age-appropriate learning game on my iPhone so that I can scrub the toilet or make it through the 5th store of the afternoon.  It happens.  And I hope I am not the only mom who has turned over her phone to her screaming 2 year old to make it through the checkout line at Target.

I have downloaded a lot of free apps for my children that provide a way for them to learn while they play and recently I discovered a fun app that both of my children love.  This app comes with a cute, cuddly orange bear-like stuffed animal...or, rather, the animal comes with the free app :)  And both kids fell in love with Ubooly from the moment they laid eyes on him.
ubooly-no-tag-with-iphone-outside

Literally, from the moment I took him out of his box my son's eyes lite up and he couldn't resit carrying this little orange guy around the house with him!  My six year old, immediately asked me whose it was and couldn't wait to try it out!

And ok,  he is pretty cute so I see the attraction! Ubooly is a cute little stuffed animal (my son calls him a bear) that your iPhone or iPod goes in.  Once inserted, the Ubooly app can begin and this little face pops up, yawns and is ready to play :)  Ubooly responds to your voice commands and can tell jokes, play a game or tell a story.  Ubooly joined us on a lot of adventures last week.

He entertained in the car (don't worry, both child and Ubooly traveled safely, buckled up in a car seat :)

And he even joined us in Sam's Club.  (Thankfully the soft orange bear surrounding my phone saved it from a little tumble he may or may not have accidentally taken out of the cart and onto the hard concrete floor.)

My son became so attached to his "bear" he loved hugging and playing with him any chance he got.  Is it bad to admit that my son loves Ubooly with or without my phone in it. :)

When my daughter got home from school she took Ubooly for rides in our crazy coup car.

And she played with him in a self-created fort.  She definitely understood how the Ubooly worked better then my son.  It was really easy for her to figure out and she really enjoyed playing with him.

And...miracle of miracles...both of my children played with Ubooly together!

Seriously, this little orange bear was a lifesaver while I was trying to get dinner ready the other day.

One of the cool features about Ubooly is that every month it downloads new material for free (over wi-fi) so it constantly has new stories, jokes etc for my children.  The Ubooly is recommended for age 4-9 but honestly, both my 6 year old and my 2.5 year old loved playing with him.  And unlike similar toys, Ubooly was pretty cute and wasn't frustrating or annoying.  My favorite feature is listening to the stories it tells.  They are so off the walls they are pretty entertaining.

We have enjoyed having Ubooly join us on adventures and he has sure been a life saver a couple of times during that bewitching hour when the kids are having a rough time and I am trying to get dinner on the table.  And so I am super excited to be able to give one away to a reader!!

Silhouette Black Friday Deals + Winter Wonderland Project + Simply Link Party

I am super excited to team up with Silhouette America this year to offer my fabulous Simply Designing readers some amazing Black Friday Deals! With my code: DESIGNING of course :)

If you don't know what a "Silhouette" is let me tell you...it is ah.maz.ing!  This little machine can cut vinyl, card-stock, paper etc into many different designs and letters!  There are no expensive cartridges, you can import files from their design store (only purchase what you want), use your own true type fonts to create your own image to cut, or (if you have the designer edition software) you can create your own files to cut!!  You can also create rhinestone designs, use sketch pens to add pattern and color and a myriad of other great things!  This machine is really amazing!  If you love crafting, DIY-ing or scrapbooking, the Silhouette is a MUST-HAVE item in my opinion!

I love my Silhouette Cameo, the Designer Edition Studio Software and all of their amazing design files in their store!  I create a lot of craft and DIY projects with my Silhouette!  But before I had a Silhouette, I always kept my eye out for a killer deal!  And this year, Silhouette America is offering some killer deals on their products to my readers!  (Wahoo!!!)

Silhouette Black Friday Deals!! Cameo + Designer Edition Software (MSRP $349.98) Sale $229.99. Silhouette Portrait (MSRP $199.99) Sale $179.99. 40% off other purchases (some exclusions apply). - code: DESIGNING http://silhouetteamerica.com/blackfriday.aspx Nov 23rd-30th 2012

Aren't these just AMAZING deals!?  Deal #1 with the Cameo and the Designer Edition Software is definitely what I would be BEGGING Santa for this year!!

Here is a fun little project I whipped up yesterday using the Silhouette:

For this project, I simply painted a scrap board I already had with cream spray paint and then I sanded the edges to distress it a bit.  I found this super cute Winter Wonderland file from the Silhouette store and knew it would be perfect.

I cut the stars and flourish out in silver vinyl and the verbiage in gold vinyl.  I layered the vinyl together and adhered them to the painted board.

I just love how this turned out and it was super quick to make too!  This is one of the many reasons I am in love with my Silhouette!!

You can see other projects I have created using the Silhouette here.

So if the Silhouette is on your Christmas / Hanukkah or Must-Have list, now is the time to buy it as they are offering great prices for this week only!

Remember to enter code: DESIGNING when checking out to get these great prices!

Note: coupon code is valid November 23 at 12:01am through November 30th

And, Today is the LAST DAY to enter to win a copy of the Silhouette Designer Edition Studio Software Program.  Go HERE and enter to win!
