I recently told you about our Master Bed Make-Over here.  Along with our new bed purchase (happy 10 year anniversary to us) which we love, we also completely made-over an old bed and the transformation was incredible!  (read all about it here)  And to top off our anniversary gift to ourselves, we invested in some really nice, brand new bedding!  I have a slight Pottery Barn obsession, and while I try to find similar cheaper alternatives, create a knock-off, we totally splurged on the bedding for our master suite!  But we are both in love with it!

After this make-over, I can truly say that I love my bed!  Both my husband and I love (and need our sleep) and so having a good bed, with functional, yet pretty bedding is important to both of us.  It was certainly an investment, but the last year or so that we have had our new bed / bedding etc, has been amazing!

The bed and bedding you own are two very important things in your home and your life as both offer you rest, rejuvenation and relaxation.  One of the healthiest things you can do for both your body and mind is
to get a good, deep, restful rest.  And having a peaceful slumber can often be determined by your comfort level of your bed and bedding.  A good sleep directly affects your health and also affects your productivity and your ability to function during the day.

Buying a bed can be a big expense and every family goes about this process differently.  But it is important not to overlook the linens (bedding) on your bed either!  Some people spend more on their bedding then on their bed, or bed frame.  The bedding you choose is important, both stylistically but also for personal comfort and function as well.  In addition, your bedding and linens can help to protect your mattress and extend the longevity of it.

There are many retail and online sources for bedding, but I always love to shop around for deals and discounts whenever I make a large purchase.  The Bed Bath Store online store, for example, has some high quality, affordable options of bedding and bed linens.  But remember that, like with any investment, it is important to take good care of your bed and bedding in order to make it last as long as possible.
Here are a few Simple Tips on how to Add Life to your Sheets and Bedding:

Whether you pull the comforters off the bed and tuck them away before getting into bed or sleep underneath it, it is important to clean your comforter occasionally, not matter how bug and bulky it might be.

Specifically where down comforters are concerned, they are usually very thick, very bulky and very
large. Because of their particularly cumbersome nature, washing them can be a hassle, but it is not that difficult to add some life into them and freshen them.

I have often tried to shove my comforter in my washing machine to wash it, but it is a bug hassle, a lot of work, and requires a few acrobatics, especially if you have a large bed or bulky comforter, it can be nearly impossible to do.  And dry cleaning can be a big expense.  But I often forget some of the most simple, natural and more effective ways to "air out our laundry" so to speak is as simple as letting them bask in the sunlight and fresh air!  Our mother's and grandmother's did this, but in my hurried life, I so often forget about this simple trick!

As long as you aren't trying to rid your comforter of stains, and are seeking only to rid it of dust and freshening it up a bit, one of the easiest and most cost effective answers is to simply shake your comforter outside vigorously and then let it bask in the sunlight and fresh air.  Yup.  How simple is that!?

The sun itself has natural antibacterial properties that will help disinfect your fabrics, so it can help to kill a few germs and freshen your comforter simply!  One tip though, be sure to sun your comforters inside out, as the sun can fade colors and you don't want to ruin the color of your pretty comforter!

So the next time you contemplate doing Olympic-worthy acrobatics in order to clean your comforter, consider just letting it air-out outside for a quick and simple refresh!
