DIY Stenciled Rug and a {GIVEAWAY}

HAPPY SATURDAY!  And Happy Long Weekend too!  And even best, you get a tutorial for an amazing DIY product and a GIVEAWAY!!  It's a great day today!

Recently I stenciled a fabulous pair of curtains that I am in love with!  So you can only imagine how ecstatic I was when I found out you could Stencil RUGS too!

Yup.  I said.  Stencil.  Rugs.  Holy cow!

01a | DIY Stenciled Rug and a {GIVEAWAY} | 13 |

Vecco is a fabulous company who sells kits to stencil rugs (you can either use your own rug or purchase one from them, however be sure to check out their suggested rug types first!)  Their spray paint is designed to be used upside down, on a rug and it is specially formulated to work on carpet.  And when their paint is combined with their sealer top coat, it creates a permanent, stylish, customizable and totally unique floor covering option!

You need to plan a few days to complete your project to allow for plenty of dry-time but it is actually really easy to stencil your rug.  Vecco has done a great job creating a simple-to-use product that doesn't take a lot of "hands on" time and it is so easy to get fabulous results!

I was in need of a new mat by one of my doors and decided that STAY! DON'T GINKO! would be the perfect rug for my home!

When the kit arrived I immediately opened it because I thought that the rug might need to sit for a day or two to flatten out.  I didn't expect there to be any damage, I just knew from other experience that carpet can sometimes need a day or two to flatten out depending on how it was stored.  To my happy amazement, the rug came packaged in a manner that made it immediately usable!  Ingenious packaging job!  (really...it's the small things that make me so happy sometimes!)

So I was already super impressed with Vecco, from their great website, to their stellar packaging job, I was all ready to begin stenciling my rug!

I followed the easy to read instructions that came with my rug.  I laid the stencil where I wanted it, covered the surrounding area with paper towels, sprayed the design, blotted the stencil and then I repeated until I was happy with my design!  (I used one of Vecco's designs for inspiration for my rug.)

CollageA | DIY Stenciled Rug and a {GIVEAWAY} | 16 |

After my flowers were stenciled, I let the paint dry a bit.  Then I used masking tape to create the diagonal lines through my rug.  I painted those and let the whole thing completely dry for a couple of days!  (In hind site I would probably recommend doing the diagonal lines first, but it turned out just fine for me!)

Using the second set of stencils, I applied the sealant according to package directions and let that dry completely!

Next thing I knew, I had a great new rug for my home!!

Isn't it just too cute!?

08a | DIY Stenciled Rug and a {GIVEAWAY} | 17 |

Vecco rugs took very little time to paint and seal and the instructions were so simple to follow!  And, in my opinion, the result are pretty amazing!

And don't worry, if you make a mistake, after your paint is dry (before you seal it) it becomes powder and you can use a vacuum to clean the dried paint off your mistake area and try again!

Now, I am sure someone is curious if my rug is stiff.  I was curious about that too.  And in all honesty, it is a tiny bit stiff (but not hard, matted or stuck together).  However, Vecco does state that this is normal and with a little foot traffic and a few vacuumings, the rug will soften up!

07a | DIY Stenciled Rug and a {GIVEAWAY} | 18 |

Vacuuming?  Yes.  After your rug is painted, sealed and after about 10 days, your rug can be vacuumed!

Still curious about how Vecco works?  Check out their informative FAQ page here!

Are you as in love as I am!?

Now it's time for you to enter to WIN!!

I love that buzz-worthy beehive pattern - it's geometrical, but still fun! I've also stenciled a carpet, but the selection of stencils I found was teeny tiny compared to this plethora of awesomeness!
