*This post contains talk of common bodily functions that happen when you are sick, or, more specifically, when your dog is sick. Be warned.
As an interior designer, I have seen my fair share of offices and homes. I have also heard my fair share of horror stories. When working with clients, one of the most commonly requested things is to replace their carpet often because of stains or a build up of dirt in high traffic areas that they just can't seem to get out.
We have all had things spill on our carpet: a glass of red punch, a pie topped with mounds of whipped cream, children having accidents, dogs with muddy feet - been there done that. One of my worst experiences ever though was when I was pregnant with my son. My husband was out of town for business and it was me, pregnant and throwing up, along with my 3 year old daughter and 2 little doggies.
Fun times.
Things were going just fine until one of my doggies got sick. Like really, really sick. From the bottom end - sick. All. Over. My. Carpet.
Did I mention I was home. By myself. Throwing up due to pregnancy anyway. And now I had to clean up doggie diarrhea from my carpet. Ew. Ew. Ew. Oh my goodness ew.
Really, could anything be grosser?
So there I was, trying to clean up what should have been declared a national disaster zone, by myself, trying to not throw up. It was awful. And after I got the majority of the mess cleaned up, I still have a stain to deal with. It was a nightmare. I am sure the pregnancy did not help, but it was awful.
From then on I have clearly understood why some families ditch carpet altogether. But I do love the feel of carpet under my feet in some portions of my house and have seen first-hand, both in the industry as well as personal experience, why buying good quality, stain resistant carpet is so incredibly important.
Mohawk makes a fabulous carpet line called Luxuriously Soft SmartStrand® Silk™ with DuPont™ Sorona® and it is rated #1 in customer satisfaction! That definitely sounds like carpet I wish I had while I was trying to clean up that mess.
Not only does SmartStrand resist stains but it is also very soft, very durable (as all Mohawk carpets are) and has built-in stain and soil resistance that lasts for life! And best of all, you can clean this carpet with only water or a mild detergent - no need for harsh chemicals.
And the stain-resistance comes from the type of fiber used in the carpet, not from harsh chemicals being sprayed on it. Which means it won't wash or wear off over time.
ELEPHANTS!
When the carpets were cleaned, they looked as good as new. Oh wow.
If SmartStrand can withstand elephant and rhino messes I can only imagine how easy cleaning up my little mess would have been!
