Valentine's Day Button Heart Art

Happy New Years everyone!!  I'm Shanna from Restoration Redoux here for my monthly contributor's post.

Christmas is my favorite time of year: the family time, the music, the food, and most of all the Christmas decorations.  Sadly, whether I like it or not, it all comes down on New Year's Day.

I find it rather depressing.

I'm a girl that likes a little sparkle in her house, so I have made a New Year's resolution:  on January 1st the Christmas decorations come down, and on January 2nd the Valentine's Day decorations go up.

When my grandmother passed away, I received her sewing basket.  A little while ago, I was looking through there and found a large amount of vintage buttons.

I used some of them to make a button ornament for Christmas, but I decided to use the rest of them for a Valentine's Day project.

Here is what you will need:

  • A frame (mine was on clearance at Michael's)
  • Some spray paint (if you want to paint your frame)
  • A small piece of fabric (my red velvet came from Micheal's using their 50 % off coupon)
  • Some buttons, and
  • A glue gun

First I sprayed my frame with two coats of spray paint.

I took the back of my frame and covered it with the fabric. Being lazy ... I just taped it to the back of the frame.

Next I printed off a heart on the computer and traced it on the fabric with chalk.

Then you just start hot-gluing your buttons inside of your chalk outline.

There is no wrong or right way to do this, I just tried to use different types of buttons spread evenly across.

That is it!  Super simple!

I love that not only do I have a fun, new decoration that I can use every year, but it will also remind me of my grandma every time I see it.
