7 Tips for Getting in the Spring-Clean-Spirit!

Spring cleaning is a wonderful way to welcome the new season. But sometimes, as with many things, the hardest part is just getting started! So how can we motivate ourselves to clean? Let’s take a look at some of my favorite tips for getting yourself in the cleaning spirit and having fun while you do it.

  1. Open Those Windows
  2. The single best thing you can do to get in the spring cleaning spirit is to let in that wonderful spring air! Few people think about opening their windows while they clean, but the cool air and warm sunshine will leave you feeling refreshed, productive and positive.

  3. Get Yourself Organized
  4. A cleaning caddy is terrific for keeping all your supplies with you while you’re moving around the house. And once you get all your supplies together in one place, you’ll feel much more prepared for the task at hand.

  5. Make the Bed First
  6. Making the bed is one of the easiest things you can do, and yet it does wonders for making a room seem neater and less cluttered. Start with the bed and you’ll feel like you’re making progress in no time at all.

  7. Inspire Yourself
  8. Put a cleaning show or a home show on in the background while you clean. “How Clean Is Your House?” from the BBC is a great choice. Or try a number of other shows on HGTV or TLC that can help inspire you to achieve beauty in your home.

  9. Invigorate Your Senses
  10. Some of the most mundane cleaning tasks can be made delightful simply by adding a little bit of aromatherapy to them. Take vacuum cleaning, for instance. Did you know you can add scented tablets so that the entire house smells fresh and clean afterwards? You could even try cinnamon tablets during the holidays. Or what about lavender or peppermint? You can incorporate these wonderful aromas into your cleaning routine by adding the right essential oils to your homemade cleaner.

  11. Listen to Some Tunes
  12. Music can make anything enjoyable. And cleaning is no exception. Especially if you can put together a good cleaning-themed playlist. Might I suggest…“So Fresh, So Clean” by Outkast?

  13. Make It Social
  14. Let’s face it. Sometimes cleaning just gets a little too tedious and boring. So why don’t we buddy up and clean with others? Getting the family involved or cleaning with a friend can make cleaning not only more fun, but more productive, too. So the next time you’re thinking about spring cleaning, why not grab someone you love to help? There’s nothing like cooperating with someone else to accomplish a goal together.

Just remember, the important part with all of this is to have fun with it! Thanks for reading and Happy Spring Cleaning to all the Simply Designing readers!

I love all your ideas and have employed many of them to get me in the cleaning mood. But I have another great idea-- I find that I'm more in the spring cleaning spirit after watching an episode of "Hoarders".. it sounds bizarre but watching that show terrifies me, and immediately spurs me to clean! In fact, this past weekend I cleared out an entire closet of JUNK after watching

I agree: music is necessary for any kind of cleaning. I'm going to wait a little for your first tip, since we have a snow storm here today in Brittany!

GREAT TIP. OPENING YOUR WINDOWS DO HELP. I NEED TO TRY TO MAKE MY BED IN THE MORNING.
