Thanks to Uncommon Goods for making this post possible.
Let's talk decorating today!  I love to decorate and let's be honest, there are so many beautiful ideas out there!  Pinterest has made finding ideas easy and abundant, but also a bit overwhelming.  It is easy to go to a store and just buy all "coordinating" items and call a room done.  And sometimes that is actually a fine solution or starting place.  But often it can leave a room feeling dull, boring and like every other similar room out there!  So today I want to share 6 Ways to Decorate Your Home to Make it Uniquely Yours!

6 Ways to Uniquely Decorate Your Space

Decorate with Plants

If there is one think you won't find in a department store collection, it's actual living plants!  Add a few of your favorite plants that fit your home and lifestyle to any room in your house to instantly create a unique space that is all your own.

I do not have a green thumb and I kill most houseplants I own.  So I would love to try a beautiful and simple Hanging Succulent Living Garden like this one found here.  Succulents are hardy and I think there is a chance I could keep them alive!

Decorate with Handmade Items

If you are crafty or creative, get your DIY on and create something unique for your own home!  We recently created some amazing wall art for my son's room that wasn't too difficult or time consuming!  (check it out here)

If you aren't inclined to create something yourself, shop at stores that sell handmade items!  Check out local flea markets, local businesses or many online stores such as Uncommon Goods.  Over half of their items sold  are handmade so you are sure to get a uniquely styled item!

Decorate with Unique Shapes

Form over function, function over form, that is an eternal debate in the decorating and design world.  Do you choose something because of how it looks or how it functions!?  Instead of choosing, find something that is both functional and stylish!  There are so many unique creations available today that it is not too difficult to find something both useful and gorgeous!
I especially love this amazing Honeycomb Decorative Accent Shelf from Uncommon Goods.

Add a Punch of Color

Some love to paint walls while others don't.  Either way, you can find ways to add punches of color throughout your home in fun and unique ways.  From pillows to vases, to walls and furniture, any decorative piece can become a fun and unique accent piece if it is unique in style or color from the rest of the room.  Don't be afraid to go bold!  A brightly colored small object can pack quite the punch without being overwhelming if displayed in the right way!

I am crushing on Uncommon Good's multi-colored Basket Locker set.

Reuse, Recycle, Re-Purpose

The beginning of many wonderful DIY stories start with "So I was driving and found this just sitting on the side of the road..."  One man's trash can truly become another man's treasure!  Finding ways to reuse items you would otherwise throw away or re-purpose items is not only fun and thrifty, but has become a very trendy thing to do!  I recently shared how I re-purposed drink dispensers into laundry soap holders and I am simply in love with them!  (check it out here)

If you aren't up to DIY-ing, look for crafted home decor items that are made from recycled or re-purposed items.  When an items is made from something recycled or re-purposed it is sure to be a unique treasure!  One-third of all products sold at Uncommon Goods are made with recycled or upcycled materials.

Check out more personalized decoration ideas here.

Uncommon Goods also has some of the cutest gift for women too that can make beautiful and even personalized home decor items for a loved one too.  Check them out here.

I know that decorating your home to be functional and unique can be a challenge.  It is important to decorate with items that have meaning to you and items that you love and if you manage to do that, you will definitely create a lovely space that is truly and uniquely your own.

I like the idea to decorate with unique shapes. Those honeycomb shelves look like they would be fun in a kids room. I'm always looking for home decor that will catch the eye but still serve a function. Would you suggest keeping the shapes similar, or would an eclectic look work too? Thanks for the inspiration!

I'm all about decorating with plants! There are so many different types of plants that can jazz up a room that take little effort to maintain. Plants also have the added benefit of cleaning up your air and giving your home a fresh feeling.

Decorating with special items to you and your family is a good idea. That way, you can keep the special items on display instead of hidden somewhere. And, it is a cheap way of adding some decoration to your home! You won't have to spend a crazy amount on new decor.

I've been looking for ideas on how I can decorate the rather drab walls of my home. It seems like there are a lot of great home decor ideas here that I'll be able to use. I especially like the idea for decorating with plants; I think this will be a great way to add life and color to my home. Thanks for the helpful advice.

That's a great tip you mention about how any decorative piece can become a fun and unique accent piece if is unique in style or color from the rest of the room. I've never thought home decor was that important, but I recently heard that properly and tastefully decorating your home can greatly increase its value. Is that true? My wife has been wanting to decorate our home more, and I may just be on her side now!

Your tip about decorating your home with plants is a really great idea. My wife and I just moved into a new apartment and we are trying to find ways to decorate it to make it feel like a home. Having plants around would make it feel less bare and since there are so many different types of plants, we won't have to worry about not finding plants we like.

I like that you suggest to add plants to your house to create a unique look. I can see why having a unique flower would help add character to a room. My mom likes to put vases with flowers throughout her house. She says it helps add a peaceful nature to the house.

My son and I have recently been feeling like our house is a bit bland so we've been wanting to change it up with some unique and different decorations. I really like the tips to personalize items, because it means things would be personalized to us and our family! It sounds like whatever fits you and your family the best, is what you should do. Thanks!
