Light-Up Tutu

My daughter loves to dress up.  And she especially loves tutus.  I've made several tutus for her from no-sew to a little sewing involved, but either way, she always loves them!  So when I heard about a new Artistic Ribbon LED Ribbon that can be sewn, stitches, glued and even cut, I knew this would be the perfect thing to add to a new tutu for my daughter so that she could have a Light-Up TuTu!

Artistic Ribbon's LED Textile Ribbon was recently unveiled as a new product in January at CHA in Anaheim (oh how I wish I had been there!).  This led ribbon can just be turned on or it can be set to blink to a variety of different settings.

I made a really simple tutu for her using lots of fabric (about 6 yards).  She is really tall so I left the fabric folded in half and simply did a running stitch along the top (long side) to gather the tulle.  After it was gathered, I sewed it carefully onto my elastic (while stretching the elastic).  Lastly I sewed the two open ends and elastic pieces together.  And I had a really cute, really full and long tutu in no time!

Then I decided to add a bow and so I attached my LED Ribbon in with the bow to create a fun, light-up effect.

This is nearly impossible to see in a photograph (my photography skills just aren't that good!) but it is really super fun in person!!

I was really impressed that this ribbon could be sewn and cut and still continue to light up!  How cool is that!?  And my daughter loved that her tutu lights up!  And you can turn the lights on and off (with a variety of flashing modes as well) with a small little fob attached to the ribbon.  The only downside is finding a place to hide the little fob.  But overall that is pretty easy to do and worth the fact that you can light up nearly any craft or sewing project without a lot of work!

What would you made with LED Textile Ribbon?
