Hi! My name is Jenna, I blog over at Paddington Way.  I am so excited to be a new contributor over here at Simply Designing! I am a mom to a cute little girl, we're adding a sweet little boy in our home next week!  I am an interior designer, lover of mason jars, all things vintage and pretty.

As an interior designer, I would have to say that by FAR the most common question I get every time almost as soon as I walk in the door is, "I have no idea what patterns are okay to mix together."

So I thought today I would share a little behind my science of putting prints + patterns together.
To never go wrong with putting prints together, you can always remember the following:
1. Large print
2. Geometric
3. Mini print
For example:

1. Large Print- More often than not, unless the person is a non-floral advocate [which I know there are some of you out there] My large print is almost always floral inspired. For the main reason being florals tend to have a vast amount of colors to pull from for the rest of the fabric and pieces in the room.

2. Geometric- From your large print fabric, choose a color that you want to further bring into your room.  I chose the turquoise/teal from the first fabric to repeat because it's so lovely.  A good geometric stripe, pentagon, trellis compliments a floral so well.  I just love the combination.

3. Mini print- from far away this print may come across as a solid, then as you get closer you see the print such as this one.  From far away this would just look like a cream pillow with maybe some texture.  Once you get further in you realize that there is a print there.  It makes a room more interesting.

The most important thing when picking fabrics is that you vary the scale of patterns- small, medium, large.
