I have seen this basic idea a couple of places, but I have not seen it done with Shamrock's yet!  So here it is!  A tutorial on how to make Crystal Shamrock decorations!  (Aren't they so cute!)

You will need:

  • Borax
  • Boiling water
  • Nylon thread or clear fishing wire
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Pot
  • Large spoon / pencil / etc.

  1. Using pipe cleaners, shape (green) pipe cleaners into the shape of your choice (shamrocks).  (To make shamrock shapes, I made 3 heart shapes and then the stem and twisted them all together)

  3. Tie clear nylon thread or clear fishing wire to the top of your pipe cleaner shape and tie the other end of the thread onto large spoons or pencils etc. (something long enough to sit on top of the container or pot)
  4. Boil water in a large pot and then add borax until it will no longer dissolve (about 3 tablespoons per cup of water or more)
  5. Either pour water / borax mixture into smaller containers or keep it in the pot
  6. Hang pipe cleaners in water / borax mixture so that it doesn't touch the sides or bottom of the container

  8. Let them sit at least over night (mine took several days) until crystals are sufficiantly formed on pipe cleaners
  9. Hang and enjoy!

I've done this with snowflakes, but never with shamrocks, how smart!
