The good news is that I am over my stomach bug! The bad news is that I now have a cold! Seriously! My daughter is still under the weather too! So between all that and my son getting his 2 month shots today...we are still sort of a mess at my house right now!

So, I went digging in my "unused crafts" folder on my computer that holds all sorts of crafts and ideas and things I have done but have not posted yet (oh come on! I know you have one of these folders too!) and found this one to share with you today!

I remember when I was a child, I had pretend make-up. I loved it! All it was was plastic lipstick, plastic eyeshadow etc...anyway, I thought it was the greatest thing ever!

My daughter loves to try to get into my make-up. So I thought she would really enjoy to have her own faux make-up. So I went to Target, and WalMart, and ToysRUs, and every other store I could think of and NO ONE sells pretend make-up anymore. I found pretend plastic lipstick, but no other plastic make-up. Instead what I found was a lot of brightly colored, sparkly lipgloss and real eyeshadow.

Nope. Not gonna work for me. I wanted PRETEND MAKE-UP! Not cheap, 80's colors sparkly make-up! If I wanted to give my daughter real make-up, would buy her decent colors and decent quality stuff at least, not this horrible stuff! Yuck!

So I went to blogland for a solution. I found this idea here at Not So Idle Hands to make faux make-up out of nail polish! Seriously! What a great idea!

I bought several make-up containers from the dollar store and a variety of nail polishes from the dollar store as well.

Clean out the make up containers and pour the nail polish into the containers. Let dry! So simple!

And I also let an empty nail polish container dry out too so she had faux nail polish (although this one has given me a heart attack a couple of times when I see it laying out, open, on the table and I think it is real nail polish! ha ha!) But it is such a hit!

Note that the nail polish will decrease in volume by about ½ as it dries so you might want to go back later and add a second layer of nail polish to these if you want your make-up containers to appear "full."

Oh, and I HIGHLY recommend doing these outside, or in a garage, or other well ventilated area, it gets super stinky!

Ok. Well, I am off to get in pj's, take some NyQuil and watch Glee. (Don't judge me 🙂

Happy Designing!

That is a brilliant idea!! My daughter wants "pretend" make up so badly and all I could find was plastic junk at the Disney Store. This is a great idea. I am going to make her a set for her birthday. My goal is to make all homemade gifts this year and this is PERFECT!

Thank you for the inspiration.

Hope you get well soon!

This is a great idea to recycle old makeup containers and nailpolish. And I think pretend makeup would be better for young skin than the real stuff. I might do this for my young niece, she might like it! Thanks for the Transformation Thursday idea <3
