This fun button art craft is sure to be a hit for kids of all ages (just keep a close eye on younger children who might be tempted to put them in their mouth!)!

Button Tree Art kids craft idea

How to Make a Button Art Tree with Multi-Colored Buttons

Begin by choosing your design and painting an image on to a blank canvas.

Tree trunk and limbs painted on canvas for button art

We used a bare tree for our basic shape, but it would also be fun to fill a solid shape with buttons as well (a giant button heart, for example, would be really cute too!).

Pile of multi color and sizes of buttons for creating button art

Collect your buttons and put them into a large pile. This step can also serve as a fantastic lesson about sorting by shape, size and color for younger children.

Setting buttons on canvas with tacky glue

Use a small amount of Tacky Glue to attach the buttons to the canvas.

Close up or branches and Button Art Tree

Continue adding buttons until you are satisfied with the way it looks. You can even choose to layer buttons upon buttons for extra dimension! Allow glue to dry thoroughly before hanging.

*I just absolutely adore how this button art turned out!  My kids love doing crafts and I know they will absolutely love digging through my stash of buttons and coming up with a fun button art design to create!  And anytime they get to paint, it is a good day!  Crafting with my kiddos is one of the things I love most and you might enjoy checking out some of these other posts too!

I love this project as it reminds me of a tree we use in Genealogy. My great-granddaughters will love it I know. They love projects they can do.

I take care of two children age 3 and 4. I love your ideas with buttons and the micro wave puff paint. I' m always looking for new ideas for them as their skill level is different.

I have a box full of buttons that go to sweaters, jackets and blouses I don't even own anymore. What a great way to use them and get rid of some clutter.

This will be a gift for my daughter (almost 42 years!), as she LOVES trees! And will very soon have a brand new house to fill with great pieces of love!

I’ll be doing this with my son, he likes this kind of art. But what size should I be using for the canvas.

Hi! This definitely works best on a canvas! I am sure foam board would work too.
