I have a confession.
I am in love with another man.
Three men actually.
My new Snowman Family!!
I am just going to go ahead and claim this as my original idea because I really have not seen this anywhere...ever.
Please don't tell me if you find them somewhere else.  I might just cry.
Unless you make your own now that you've seen how cool mine are 🙂  Then please tell me about that!
But I L.O.V.E. how they turned out!  (Can you tell how excited I am?!?!)
And they are super simple to make!  Really, even an older child could make these with a little help.
Here's the easy how-to:
  1. You will need:
    • 3 styrofoam cones, varying height
    • 3 round styrofoam balls
    • felt (I used charcoal, orange, red and 2 shades of green)
    • glitter (I used Martha Stewart's tinsel glitter in carrara marble)
    • 3 dixie cups
    • spray adhesive
    • hot glue gun
  2. First, glue your styrofoam balls to the top of the cones.
  3. Next, spray spray-adhesive all over your snowman body and head (Sorry, no pictures of the first few parts.  My hands were sticky and glitter-y!)
  4. While the spray adhesive is still sticky, sprinkle glitter all over the entire snowman (my photos don't show the snowmen in all their sparkly, glittery glory.  It is an overcast day and I just couldn't get the lighting right.  So imagine that they are sparkly!)
  5. If you want, you can then spray the entire thing with a clear coat of polyurethane.  It should help the glitter stay in place little better.
  6. Cut out eyes and a mouth out of charcoal colored felt and glue on with a hot glue gun.
  7. Make a small cone out of orange felt and hot glue on for the nose.
  8. Cut a long strip of felt for each scarf and glue in place.
  9. Next make your hat.  I'm not going to lie.  This one took a lot of trial and error.  I threw away a lot of attempts until I had the amazing idea to just cover a dixie cup with felt instead of trying to custom make a snowman hat.  But be careful, if you use a plastic dixie cup like I did, the plastic can melt if you aren't careful.
    • Cut a circle to cover the top of the hat (bottom of the dixie cup) with felt and hot glue

    • Cut a long strip of felt to cover the side of the dixie cup with.  Hint.  It is easier if you actually cut a curve in the top of the felt, glue it on and then trim the bottom off level with the bottom of the dixie cup.

    • Cut a large circle out of felt, and then cut another circle out of the first circle so that it fits snug at the bottom of the dixie cup.  I'll be honest, I didn't even glue this.  Since there is a lip on the dixie cup, it will stay on without glue.

Now you just get to enjoy your sparkly, cute little snowmen!

I love my new little family?  Don't you?
